Paul Keen is a Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at Carleton University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He holds degrees from Dalhousie, St. Andrews, British Columbia, and York universities. His research focuses on Romantic and eighteenth-century print culture, the role of humanities, and pre-Confederation Canadian literature. He has authored influential works such as Imagining What We Know: A Defense of the Humanities in a Utilitarian Age (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020) and edited volumes like Mary Wollstonecraft in Context (Cambridge UP, 2020). Keen has secured significant SSHRC grants, including a 2023-2028 Insight Grant for his project on the essay genre. His recent work explores the intersection of literature and politics, with a focus on Canadian print culture and transatlantic reform movements.
