Ritin Fernandez

Professor Ritin Fernandez is a Professor at the University of Newcastle's School of Nursing and Midwifery within the College of Health, Medicine, and Wellbeing. She serves as Assistant Dean (International) and leads the Centre for Transformative Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Research, a JBI Centre of Excellence. Ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide, Professor Fernandez is an internationally recognized expert in evidence synthesis for clinical practice with numerous national and global awards.

Professor Fernandez holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Western Sydney. Her academic career includes a professorship at the University of Wollongong from 2012 to 2022 before joining the University of Newcastle in 2022. She has extensive teaching experience in evidence-based practice, critical appraisal, applied statistics in healthcare, and research methods. She has developed and taught advanced courses in systematic reviews, meta-analysis, and quantitative research for postgraduate and doctoral students.

Professor Fernandez's research focuses on evidence synthesis, with particular expertise in systematic reviews, meta-analysis, and quantitative methods. Her work spans cardiovascular disease, heart disease, diabetes, and multicultural health, especially within the Indian-Australian community. She leads collaborative international research projects addressing complex patient needs through evidence-based healthcare approaches. Her research has significantly contributed to improving heart health outcomes in diverse populations.

Professor Fernandez's recent publications demonstrate her leadership in systematic reviews across diverse healthcare domains including quality improvement projects, pain management in critical care, nurse resilience, and cardiovascular procedures. Her work consistently applies rigorous methodological approaches to address pressing clinical questions.

Professor Fernandez is deeply committed to mentoring emerging researchers and has extensive expertise in data management. As Assistant Dean (International), she drives the College's internationalization strategy, building strategic international partnerships, enhancing the diversity of the international student profile, and overseeing global operations to ensure compliance with quality standards. She plays a vital role in establishing and communicating the University of Newcastle's brand and values globally while leading the Centre for Transformative Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Research.
