Dr. Lyndsay Alexander is an Associate Professor within the School of Health Sciences at Robert Gordon University. She serves as Deputy Director of the Scottish Centre for Evidence-based Multi-professional Practice: a JBI Centre of Excellence and is a member of the international JBI Scoping Review Methodology Group. Dr. Alexander co-leads the North of Scotland Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR) and is a member of the Scottish CAHPR Consortium which aims to support and develop Allied Health Professions research.
Dr. Alexander is an experienced applied health researcher and musculoskeletal physiotherapist with expertise in evidence synthesis, particularly systematic reviews and scoping reviews. Her research focuses on:
- Evidence synthesis and systematic reviews methodology
- Musculoskeletal research (tendinopathy, back pain, knee/hip joint replacement)
- Long-Covid rehabilitation
- AHP service delivery via remote technology
- Physical activity and exercise interventions across diverse populations
With over 70 research outputs including numerous publications from 2023-2025, Dr. Alexander's recent work demonstrates a strong focus on scoping review methodology, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, Long-COVID rehabilitation services, and the application of digital technologies in healthcare delivery. Her publications span high-impact journals in evidence synthesis, rehabilitation, and healthcare research.
Dr. Alexander actively supervises research students, currently guiding multiple PhD, DPT, and MRes students through their research projects. Her supervision spans topics including traumatic injury rehabilitation, tendinopathy, long-COVID, digital health technologies, and Parkinson's disease rehabilitation. She has successfully mentored several students to completion of their degrees.
As Deputy Director of the Scottish Centre for Evidence-based Multi-professional Practice, Dr. Alexander leads a team focused on advancing evidence-based practice across multiple healthcare professions. The center provides training, conducts high-quality evidence syntheses, and supports the implementation of evidence into practice across Scotland and internationally.
