Richard Warren is Professor of Dermatology and Therapeutics and Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at the University of Manchester's Division of Musculoskeletal & Dermatological Sciences. He graduated from Liverpool University with first class honours in Pharmacology followed by an honours Medical degree, receiving the J Hill Abram prize for highest mark in Medicine and the Reginald Dora Goodrick prize for highest mark in Surgery.
His research focuses on pharmacogenetics (forming the basis of his PhD thesis), genetic susceptibility to psoriasis, and biological therapies for psoriasis treatment. He is widely published in top dermatology journals including The Lancet, Nature Genetics, and The Journal of Investigative Dermatology. Warren currently serves as EU Editor in Chief for Dermatology and Therapy and is an active member of the International Psoriasis Council.
Warren's research program includes stratified medicine, pharmacovigilance, psoriasis genetics, and clinical trials, funded by the Medical Research Council, British Skin Foundation, Psoriasis Association, NIHR, and industry collaborations. His recent publications through 2025 demonstrate continued leadership in understanding biologic therapies, treatment efficacy, and molecular mechanisms in psoriasis.
- National awards from British Association of Dermatologists for pharmacogenetics of methotrexate
- International awards from American Academy of Dermatology for pharmacogenetics of methotrexate
- Chair of BAD guideline group for methotrexate
- Member of BAD biologics committee and research subcommittee
As an educator, Warren supervises 4 PhD students (2 funded by MRC) and provides regular lectures and clinical teaching to medical students. He has established significant collaborations across the UK and internationally with researchers focusing on psoriasis genetics, biological therapy safety, and clinical trials. Warren co-established a nationally recognized clinic for severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis with Dr. Hector Chinoy in 2010, which serves as a national exemplar for specialized dermatological care.
