Richard Tunney is a Professor and Head of the School of Psychology at Aston University's College of Health and Life Sciences. He is an experimental cognitive psychologist specializing in judgment and decision-making, behavioral addiction, and impulsivity. His research spans surrogate decision-making (DMfO), gambling studies, and applications of signal detection theory. He accepts PhD students and teaches courses such as Judgment and Decision-Making (PY3023).

His research interests focus on behavioral addiction, surrogate decision-making in health contexts, impulsivity mechanisms, and gambling-related harms. Additional work includes second-language acquisition, implicit learning, and pro-social behavior. Articles highlight structural equation modeling for gambling disorders, gambling harm assessment, and decision-making ethics.
As Head of the School of Psychology, he leads the Applied Health Research Group and Aston Research Centre for Health in Ageing. He supervises PhD student Jodie Raybould and collaborates on cross-cultural studies of gaming and gambling behaviors.
