Professor Matt Field is a faculty member in the School of Psychology at the University of Sheffield. His research focuses on the psychological mechanisms underlying addiction, particularly alcohol problems, decision-making, and impulse control. He has held academic positions since 1997 and completed his DPhil in Experimental Psychology at the University of Sussex. His work is funded by organizations like the MRC, ESRC, and Wellcome Trust.
Key research interests include the role of value-based decision-making in recovery from addiction, translational treatments for alcohol use disorders, and the impact of advertising policies on gambling and alcohol behaviors. Professor Field collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, including the Interdisciplinary Centre of the Social Sciences (ICOSS).
His recent publications explore topics like the brain disease model of addiction, smartphone app interventions for alcohol reduction, and attentional bias in severe alcohol use disorder. He has contributed to systematic reviews on gambling advertising and alcohol pricing policies.
