Richard N Sifers, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine. He serves as Director of Operations & Membership for the Center for Drug Discovery and is a member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
- Ph.D. (1984) - University of Oklahoma College of Medicine
- B.S. (1978) - Missouri Western State University
His research focuses on protein biosynthetic quality control in the secretory pathway, particularly the role of ERManI in degradation of misfolded glycoproteins and its implications in alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency-related liver disease. His work explores how ER stress responses and conformational diseases intersect in cancer cell pro-survival mechanisms.
Key publication trends include studies on glycoprotein degradation signals, ER-Golgi mannosidase dynamics, and disease modifier mechanisms in protein folding disorders. His recent articles emphasize translational regulation of ERManI and its therapeutic potential in hepatocellular carcinoma.
He is affiliated with multiple centers including the Huffington Center on Aging, Human Genome Sequencing Center, and Digestive Disease Center. Current projects involve dissecting ERManI regulatory pathways and exploring its role as a diagnostic marker for liver diseases.
