Richard Mortlock is a faculty member at Rutgers University and holds the academic rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. He is also an Affiliate Scientist at the College of Science, Florida Atlantic University, and previously held positions at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory for two decades. His research focuses on U-series dating of corals for reconstructing Late Pleistocene sea levels and atmospheric radiocarbon fluctuations, as well as high-resolution climate records derived from stable isotopes in corals and speleothems.
- Education: B.A. in Natural Science from University of Pennsylvania (1981), M.S. in Chemical Oceanography from Florida State University (1985), and Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from Rutgers University (2017)
Mortlock’s work spans interdisciplinary applications in isotope geochemistry, paleoceanography, and climate reconstruction. His recent publications highlight studies on Hawaiian drowned reefs, Argentine margin sediments, and monsoon variability in South Asia and Southeast Asia. While no specific awards are mentioned in the available data, his contributions to radiocarbon calibration and subduction zone tectonics are well-documented through decades of collaborative research.
