Richard M. Hendler is a Clinical Professor of Law in Business at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, where he has served since 1989, transitioning to full-time faculty in 1993. He holds a J.D. from NYU School of Law (1988) and a B.S. in Accounting from NYU College of Business and Public Administration (now Stern School of Business, 1985). His research and teaching focus on Business Structures, Contracts, Entrepreneurial Ventures, Privacy, Arbitration, and Corporate Social Responsibility. He has received multiple teaching accolades, including the Stern Distinguished Teaching Award (2014) and Undergraduate Teacher of the Year (2001, 2003).

In addition to academia, Hendler runs a private law practice since 1993, specializing in business formation, real estate, e-commerce, and entertainment law. He advises startups, small businesses, and entrepreneurs, with a focus on legal structuring, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance. He serves as Legal-Expert-in-Residence at the Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and has been a faculty advisor for NYU Gallatin and student organizations.
His legal expertise spans civil litigation strategy, intellectual property, and mergers & acquisitions. He has lectured nationally on legal issues in business and has supervised law students at NYU’s Media Law Collaborative.
