Dr. Richard Kim is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney's School of Life Sciences, specializing in respiratory immunology. He holds a PhD in Immunology and Microbiology from the University of Newcastle (2015) and has conducted postdoctoral research funded by the Lung Foundation Australia & Boehringer Ingelheim fellowship (2018–2020). His work focuses on developing mouse models to study chronic lung diseases such as severe asthma and COPD, integrating in vivo testing with bioinformatic analysis to advance translational research.
Key research interests include inflammation mechanisms, therapeutic target discovery, and understanding sex hormone influences on asthma severity. He teaches immunology and human anatomy courses, and leads a funded project on microRNA roles in COPD pathogenesis. His interdisciplinary approach combines cell culture, animal models, and human sample analysis to address unmet clinical needs in respiratory medicine.
