Dr. Richard Francis Webster is a Researcher at the Electron Microscope Unit within the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre at UNSW Sydney. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Bristol (2015) and an MSci in Physics from the same institution (2011). With over 10 years of expertise in transmission electron microscopy (TEM), his role involves collaborating with researchers to apply advanced microscopy techniques, teaching TEM usage, and managing state-of-the-art equipment such as the JEOL GrandARM300F2 and JEOL F200 microscopes.
Education:
- PhD in Physics, University of Bristol, UK (2015)
- MSci in Physics, University of Bristol, UK (2011)
Research Interests:
- Materials for Catalysis and Energy Storage: Focuses on single-atom catalysts and nanoparticle characterization using TEM.
- Electronic Materials: Applies advanced imaging (e.g., EELS, XEDS) to semiconductor and ferroelectric materials for solar and semiconductor applications.
- Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing: Analyzes microstructural properties of alloys using electron diffraction and advanced imaging.
Grants: Secured funding for an in situ gas/heating holder for the JEOL F200 TEM (2018).
Labs/Teams: Leads operations at the Electron Microscope Unit, part of UNSW’s Microscopy Australia Node.
