Dr. Shelly Conroy is a Royal Society University Research Fellow and Lecturer in Functional Thin Films and Microscopy at Imperial College London's Department of Materials. She leads the Conroy Group, specializing in in-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) for atomic-scale material design. Her work focuses on quantum and energy materials, including ferroelectric domain wall engineering and thin film growth of boracites. Key affiliations include the Imperial Royce 'Atoms to Devices' facility and the UK National Centre for Cryogenic Microscopy.
Education: PhD in AlN thin film growth and in-situ TEM from Tyndall National Institute and University College Cork, Ireland. Previous roles include permanent staff scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Science Foundation Ireland Research Fellow at University of Limerick.
Research Interests: Ferroelectric domain dynamics, in-situ TEM/STEM characterization, cryogenic microscopy, battery materials, and machine learning integration for atomic-scale analysis. Collaborations include Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, SuperSTEM, and Trinity College Dublin.
