Richard Epstein is the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of Law at NYU School of Law and Director of the Classical Liberal Institute, which he co-founded in 2013. He holds an Emeritus title as the James Parker Hall Distinguished Service Professor of Law at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on Communications Law, Constitutional Law, Health Law, Property Rights, and Torts. Epstein has authored over 15 books, including The Classical Liberal Constitution (2014), and contributes to media platforms like Defining Ideas and Forbes.com. He is a Hoover Institution Senior Fellow and recipient of the 2011 Bradley Prize.
Education: LLB from Yale Law School (1968), BA (Juris) from Oxford University (1966), and BA from Columbia University (1964, summa cum laude). Courses taught include Contracts, Property Law, and Water Law. He co-authors Cases and Materials in Torts and engages in podcast discussions on legal theory and policy.
Awards include membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and honorary degrees from the University of Ghent and University of Applied Sciences, Lima. His work emphasizes classical liberal principles, limited government, and legal-economic analysis.
