Richard Costello

Prof. Richard Costello is a Professor of Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and Consultant Respiratory Physician at Beaumont Hospital. His academic career includes roles as Chair of Education at the European Respiratory Society and former Vice President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. He holds an MB BCh BAO from RCSI (1988), MRCPI in Internal Medicine (1990), and MD from National University of Ireland (1998).

His research focuses on digital medicine applications for respiratory diseases, particularly asthma and COPD. Notable contributions include patented inhaler adherence technologies and over €5M in EU/industry grants. He has published >150 papers and led trials like the INCA Sun study evaluating digital adherence tools.
