Professor Alice V Stanton is a clinician-scientist at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), holding the position of Professor of Cardiovascular Therapeutics in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. She leads the Molecular & Cellular Therapeutics department and maintains clinical roles at Beaumont and National Maternity Hospitals, Dublin. Her academic journey includes degrees from University College Dublin (MB BCh BAO, 1984), a first-class B.Sc. in Physiology (1986), and a PhD in Pharmacology (1993). She completed clinical training across Europe and the UK, specializing in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics and General Internal Medicine.
Research focuses on vascular diseases, hypertension management, and cardiovascular genetics, with recent emphasis on nutrition’s role in health. She has authored over 130 peer-reviewed papers and secured grants from bodies including the European Commission and Health Research Board. Awards and recognitions include Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland and membership in leading hypertension societies.
Her funded projects include studies on omega-3 enriched foods’ cardiovascular benefits and genetic risk scores for aneurysms. Teaching contributions include developing online clinical skills programs. Stanton chairs the Irish Heart Foundation’s High BP Council and serves on multiple ethics and grants committees, reflecting her leadership in cardiovascular research and public health policy.
