Kieran Murphy

Professor Kieran Murphy is a Professor and Chair of Psychiatry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and a Consultant Psychiatrist at Beaumont Hospital. He holds academic and clinical roles in behavioral genetics and neuropsychiatry. Educated at University College Dublin (MB BCh BAO, 1987) and Cardiff University (PhD in Psychiatric Genetics, 1994), he has extensive experience in academic and regulatory leadership, including serving as President of the Medical Council of Ireland (2008–2013). His research focuses on psychiatric genetics, neuroimaging, and behavioral phenotypes in genetic and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Key research interests include the genetics of psychiatric disorders, structural and functional neuroimaging, and the neuropsychiatry of conditions like 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.
