Richard Cartwright is a Principal Enterprise Fellow and Deputy Head of the Department of Accounting at the University of Southampton's Southampton Business School. He serves as a Non Executive Director and is an active Chartered Accountant with significant contributions to both academic and professional accounting communities.
His educational background includes a BSc in Economics from the University of Birmingham. He completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at Southampton Solent University where he also obtained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Cartwright specializes in Audit education and has pioneered the use of ICAEW educational films at universities globally. His research interests focus on sustainability reporting for SMEs, as evidenced by his involvement in the 'SMEs Sustainable Growth' project collaborating with students and staff to produce sustainability reports. He is particularly interested in how extra and co-curricular activities support learning and professional development for students and professionals.
His external roles demonstrate significant professional engagement: Non Executive Director at CNWL NHS Foundation Trust and Places for People, Governor at Motability, and Independent External Member of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee at the National Audit Office. He previously served on the ICAEW Council and chaired the ICAEW Assessment Committee.
