Richard Branham is a Professor of Industrial Design at the University of Kansas, affiliated with the School of Art and Design. With 34 years of professional design experience and 25 years of teaching/research, he holds M.F.A. and B.F.A. degrees from KU (1962-1964), and a M.Sc. in Product Design from Illinois Institute of Technology (1970). His work spans global projects with clients like McDonald's, the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, and the China External Trade Development Council.
Research focuses on cognitive human factors, interaction design techniques, and product internationalization. Notable publications include works on student-centered learning in design education (1999), identity design in digital contexts (1998), and interaction design methodologies (1997-1996). He pioneered object-oriented modeling frameworks for complex problem solving and contributed to foundational design theory through A Language of Form (1980).
Awarded the Burlington Northern Foundation Faculty Achievement Award (1986), H.O.P.E. recognition (1985), and Mortar Board's Outstanding Educator (1978), he has received grants totaling over $50,000 for instructional innovation and software development. His work bridges design education, global design challenges, and interdisciplinary methodologies.
