Richard Blakemore is an Associate Professor in Social and Maritime History at the University of Reading. His research focuses on early modern maritime empires, trade, piracy, and cultural exchange. He teaches modules such as 'The Sea in History' and 'Theory and Themes: Global History.' Blakemore is a Trustee of the British Commission for Maritime History and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He collaborates with institutions like the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, and contributes to public history through articles on platforms like The Conversation.
His research interests include the legal and cultural dimensions of maritime activity, as evidenced by his work on 18th-century piracy literature and historical disputes over fishing rights.
