Dr Christopher Ware serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences within the Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Greenwich. His academic journey began after a curatorial career at the National Maritime Museum in the late 1970s, leading him to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Greenwich.
His educational credentials include a Masters in Maritime History (2000) and a PhD by published work (2013), both completed at the University of Greenwich.
Ware's research specializes in maritime and naval history with emphases on 18th-century British naval operations, administrative evolution, and military strategy. Key projects include analysis of Admiral John Byng's life and death, British campaigns in the Isthmus of Panama (1725-1728), and the English response to the 1667 Dutch raid on the Medway. His work examines how historical events shaped naval governance and strategic decision-making during the early modern period.
He actively contributes to the University History Research Group, collaborating on interdisciplinary historical investigations and scholarly initiatives within the department.
