Richard A. Cerione is a Professor at Cornell University, holding dual appointments in the College of Arts and Sciences (Chemistry and Chemical Biology) and the College of Veterinary Medicine (Molecular Medicine). He leads the Cerione Lab, which investigates cellular signaling pathways in cancer progression and neurogenesis using multidisciplinary approaches.
- Education:
- BA, Rutgers College
- PhD, Rutgers University
- Postdoc, Cornell University
- Howard Hughes Research Associate, Duke University Medical Center
Research Interests:
The lab focuses on three core areas: (1) structural studies of G protein activation at cell membranes; (2) small molecule chemistry to identify cancer metabolism pathways for therapeutic intervention; and (3) characterization of cancer/stem cell-derived membrane vesicles in malignancy and stem cell biology. Their work bridges biochemical, structural, and genetic methods with mouse models and cell systems.
Publications:
Recent articles highlight glutaminase regulation in cancer metabolism, Rho GTPase signaling, and microvesicle-mediated transformation. Subfields include metabolic pathways, signal transduction, and vesicle biology.
