Dr Richard A Courtney is the Head of the Department of Business Entrepreneurship & Finance at the Royal Docks School of Business and Law, University of East London. He leads over 40 academic staff and oversees the implementation of the Vision 2028 strategy. He holds a BSc in Sociology, an MSc in Social Research, and a PhD. His research focuses on entrepreneurship, cultural heritage, and leadership in higher education and public sectors. Courtney has collaborated with organizations like English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund, advising on community engagement and heritage policies.
His research explores the efficacy of entrepreneurial education and policy in the arts and creative economy. Recent grants include ESRC and AHRC projects totaling over £190,000, focusing on shared heritages, cultural diversity, and heritage decision-making frameworks. He teaches modules in Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and Strategic Management.
Prior roles include positions at the University of Leicester, Nottingham Trent University, and Coventry University, where he developed entrepreneurship curricula. His publications span management governance, cultural identity, and heritage ecology, with notable works in journals like the Journal of Management & Governance and Economic Geography.
