Riccardo Badano

Riccardo Badano is a Lecturer at the Royal College of Art's School of Architecture, leading the MA City Design studio focused on migrant circulations and spatial practices in Europe. He is also a PhD candidate in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London. His interdisciplinary work bridges architecture, environmental science, and critical theory, examining how environments propagate violence and shape cultural identities.

Education: MA in Research Architecture (Goldsmiths), MA in Architecture and Urban Planning (University of Genoa), current PhD in Visual Cultures (Goldsmiths).

Research interests include collaborative practices across colonial botany, radical politics, and experimental narratives. He employs counter-mapping, extended timelines, and spatial interventions to interrogate bordering practices and climate adaptation strategies.

Key projects include the documentary Something of the Sun (2022) exploring securitised borders and climatic change, and the book series Research Architecture: Pedagogies, Politics and Practices (2022–), co-edited with Tomas Percival and Susan Schuppli. His work has been exhibited at venues like ar/ge kunst and the Mediterranean19 Biennale.

Collaborations span NGOs, environmental scientists, and artists, emphasizing transdisciplinary approaches to spatial justice and ecological futures.
