معرفی
Dr. Reza Mehvar, Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chapman University School of Pharmacy, is a leading pharmacokineticist whose work bridges laboratory findings and clinical application. Educated at the University of Tehran (Pharm.D.) and the University of Alberta (Ph.D.), he previously served on the faculties of Drake University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he also directed the Pharmacokinetics Core of the Clinical Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics Center.
Education
- Doctor of Pharmacy, University of Tehran
- Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Alberta
Research Interests
Mehvar’s laboratory investigates how hepatic impairment alters the disposition of drugs and how targeted delivery systems can protect the liver against ischemia–reperfusion injury and transplant rejection. His team employs sophisticated UPLC–MS/MS assays, in vivo rodent models, and mechanistic pharmacokinetic modeling to quantify changes in cytochrome P450 activity, blood–brain barrier permeability, and hepatobiliary transport under pathological conditions. Complementing his experimental program, he explores evidence-based educational strategies, including open-book assessments and online pharmacokinetic tools, to advance PharmD training.
Publications Overview
Across more than 50 peer-reviewed articles since 2014, Mehvar’s publications cluster into three major themes: (1) mechanistic studies of CYP-mediated metabolism in liver and brain microsomes, (2) translational investigations of blood–brain barrier integrity in hepatic disease models, and (3) methodological innovations in UPLC–MS/MS quantitation and inhaled drug bioequivalence testing. Recent papers elucidate how bile duct ligation, ischemia–reperfusion, and anesthetic agents modulate barrier permeability and enzyme kinetics, while educational studies evaluate curricular reforms in pharmacokinetics instruction.
Honors & Awards
- ASPET Academy of Pharmacology Educators, inductee
- AACP Distinguished Teaching Scholar Award (inaugural recipient)
- Multiple AACP and Texas Tech awards for innovation and excellence in teaching and research
Funding & Editorial Service
His research has been continuously supported by NIH and other extramural agencies. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, shaping editorial standards for the discipline.
Laboratory & Team
At Chapman’s Rinker Health Science Campus, Mehvar leads an active research group that integrates analytical chemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacometrics to address clinically relevant questions in drug disposition and hepatic pathophysiology.
