Dr. Reza Kianoush is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University, specializing in structural engineering and earthquake-resistant design. His research focuses on preventing failures in liquid-containing structures like wastewater tanks, ensuring environmental safety through advanced materials and designs. He holds a PhD from the University of Alberta (1986), MEng from the University of Sheffield (1981), and BSc from the University of Warwick (1980).
Research Interests:
- Seismic rehabilitation of concrete structures
- Performance-based design of liquid containment systems
- Non-linear finite element modeling
- Optimization of concrete joints and water stops in large tanks
Dr. Kianoush is affiliated with major organizations including the American Concrete Institute (ACI), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and Canadian Standards Association (CSA). His work addresses challenges in massive concrete structures, balancing practical construction with leak prevention. He leads the Structural Lab and is available to supervise graduate students.
