Dr. Renu Srivastava is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Genetics, Development, and Cell Biology at Iowa State University. She specializes in undergraduate biology education and molecular research, with affiliations at Iowa State since at least 2016 based on publication records. Her office is located at 2256 Molecular Bio, Ames, IA 50011-1079.
She holds a Ph.D. in Botany from the National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR), Lucknow, India, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Stockholm and University of Turku.
Her research integrates two primary domains:
- Pedagogical Innovation: Developing student-centered teaching frameworks that incorporate biological research techniques, with focus on learning outcome assessment.
- Molecular Mechanisms: Vertebrate development using zebrafish CRISPR-Cas9 models, and plant stress responses (unfolded protein response in Arabidopsis/maize).
Recent publications (2024) demonstrate a shift toward educational research in gene editing curricula, while earlier works (2013-2020) focus on plant stress pathways, particularly ER stress sensors and autophagy regulation. This reflects a dual expertise spanning education theory and experimental molecular biology.
