Renske Doorenspleet is an Associate Professor in Comparative Politics at the University of Warwick's Department of Politics and International Studies (PaIS). She holds a Ph.D. and MA from Leiden University, with her work recognized by awards including the Carl Beck Award and Jaarprijs Politicologie. Her research focuses on democratic transitions, authoritarianism, and political institutions in divided societies. She advises governments and collaborates with theatre groups on nation-building projects. Current research includes global authoritarianism trends and democratic innovations.
Teaching includes modules like 'Introduction to Politics' and 'The Value of Democracy,' emphasizing interdisciplinary methods. She received grants for innovative teaching, including the 'WhatWhyDemocracy?' project. Supervised eight completed PhDs, with current students researching opposition parties in Africa, constitution-making in Egypt/Tunisia, and post-liberation state-building in Algeria.
Publications span journals like Democratization and World Politics, with books on democratic transitions and African party systems. She co-edited volumes on one-party dominance and African democracy. Awards include the Academic Fellowship from the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning.
