Renee McCachren, Ph.D., is a Professor of Music at Catawba College, holding the Katherine W. Osborne Endowed Chair for Keyboard with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra. She teaches music theory, music history, aural skills, and directs the Performance Concentration. Her research focuses on 16th-century madrigals, Beethoven's music, and music theory pedagogy, with presentations at international conferences. She has authored entries for the Reader’s Guide to Music: History, Theory, Criticism and Encyclopedia of the Romantic Era.

Professional affiliations include the Society for Music Theory, American Musicological Society, and College Music Society. She previously served on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy and as Past President of Music Theory SouthEast.
