Renee Bricker, Ph.D., is a Professor of History at the University of North Georgia's Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy. She holds a Ph.D. in History from Wayne State University (2010) and an M.A. in early modern British history from Antioch University (2000). Her research focuses on power dynamics, religious reformations, citizenship, and Tudor-Stuart England, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of violence and loyalty in late Tudor England. She teaches courses such as 'History of Torture' and 'Renaissance Reformation.'
Dr. Bricker's scholarly work includes analyses of Elizabethan foreign relations, monarchical power structures, and the socio-political fissures in Tudor England. Her dissertation explored the emergence of English subject-citizen identity through coercive state practices. She maintains research interests in early modern military history, legal traditions, and gender studies within European contexts.
In addition to her academic contributions, Dr. Bricker is a native Detroiter and passionate supporter of the Detroit Red Wings. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes critical engagement with historical narratives and the role of history in shaping democratic citizenship.
