Dr. Christina Faraday is a Research Fellow at Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge, specializing in Tudor and Stuart visual and material culture. She holds a BA, MPhil, and PhD from the University of Cambridge, where she now teaches and contributes to access programs like the Sutton Trust Summer School. Her research explores the intersection of art, rhetoric, and music in early modern Britain, with a focus on Northern European art and architecture. She is also an AHRC/BBC New Generation Thinker (2019), leveraging media to communicate her work on BBC Radio 3. Her first book, Tudor Liveliness: Vivid Art in Post-Reformation England (2023), redefines concepts of 'liveliness' in Tudor art. She co-directs the MSt in History of Art and Visual Culture at the Institute for Continuing Education.
Her research interests include transmedial studies, the public value of humanities, and the symbolism of clocks in Tudor portraits. Awards include Fellowships from the Royal Historical Society and the Society of Antiquaries London (2024). She curates exhibitions, such as the National Portrait Gallery’s 'Elizabethan Treasures' (2019), and publishes widely in venues like Apollo Magazine and History Today.
Dr. Faraday’s work bridges academic and public spheres, with lectures for institutions like The Arts Society and podcasts like British Art Matters. She actively engages in outreach, advocating for accessible art history. Her current projects include a general audience book on Tudor art and studies on Elizabethan art and music.
