Rene Zenteno, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Demography at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), affiliated with the College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP). His research focuses on social and demographic change, international migration (particularly Mexico-US dynamics), social inequality, and immigration policy. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. in Demography from El Colegio de México, and a B.A. in Communications from Tecnologico de Monterrey.
Dr. Zenteno’s work examines migration networks, the socio-economic impacts of migration, and policy implications. He has presented extensively at academic conferences, including at the Latin American Studies Association, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, and the University of North Carolina. His research spans topics such as adolescent migration, urban infrastructure investments, and gender differences in union formation in Mexico. He has collaborated with institutions like El Colegio de México, the Instituto Nacional de Migración, and the University of San Antonio.
Key contributions include analyzing how migration networks influence microenterprise development in Mexico and evaluating the effects of public infrastructure investments on urban communities.
