A/Prof Rene Stolwyk is an Associate Professor and Clinical Neuropsychologist at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health, Monash University. He leads Stroke and Telehealth research within the Monash-Epworth Rehabilitation Research Centre, supervising a team of 12 researchers and students. He founded the Monash TeleNeuropsychology Service, a world-first initiative using digital health to support rural neurology patients. As convenor of Monash’s Clinical PhD (Clinical Neuropsychology) program, he trains the next generation of neuropsychologists.
His research focuses on improving cognitive and mood outcomes post-brain injury, with over 70 publications in stroke rehabilitation, telehealth, and rural health. Key projects include telehealth-based memory rehabilitation and service delivery models for rural trauma patients. He collaborates internationally and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and innovation.
Rene’s work bridges clinical practice, education, and research, emphasizing patient-centered care. He has pioneered telehealth solutions to enhance access to neuropsychological services, particularly for rural populations. His recent studies explore mental health support post-stroke, compensatory memory therapies, and clinician experiences in telehealth implementation.
