Rene Bekkers

René Bekkers is a Full Professor of Philanthropy and director of the Center for Philanthropic Studies at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His research integrates surveys, experiments, and administrative data to study philanthropy, volunteering, and research integrity. He co-founded the European Research Network on Philanthropy and leads the Giving in the Netherlands Panel Study.

Recent work explores plasma donation awareness, volunteer retention, and research transparency. Awards include recognition for contributions to nonprofit research (2023) and tax studies (2015).
