Arjen de Wit is an Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, based in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities within the Sociology department. His primary research focuses on philanthropy, nonprofit management, volunteering, and social productivity. He holds a PhD from the Center for Philanthropic Studies (2018), where his dissertation explored the relationship between government subsidies and charitable donations.
Key research interests include:
- Effects of volunteering on well-being
- Value of unpaid activities for social assistance beneficiaries
- Unrestricted funding impacts on nonprofit organizations
- Social productivity in post-capitalist societies
Notable achievements include awards such as the 2nd place ECSR PhD Thesis Prize and ARNOVA Emerging Scholar Award. He teaches Sociology at both undergraduate and graduate levels, integrating quantitative and computational methods into his research and teaching.
