Dr. Rebecca Stephens Falcasantos serves as Assistant Professor of Religion at Amherst College, Massachusetts. Her academic background includes an MA in Early Christian Studies from the University of Notre Dame and a PhD in Religious Studies from Brown University.
Her research focuses on the intersection of religion, ritual, and imperial identity in late antiquity, with particular expertise in early Christian history and Byzantine studies. Her work explores how religious practices shaped political power structures in the ancient Mediterranean world, especially examining the complex relationships between early Christian communities and Jewish traditions.
Dr. Stephens Falcasantos's scholarship demonstrates a consistent engagement with historical narratives of religious violence and their modern reinterpretations, as evidenced by her analysis of the 5th-century Inmestar crucifixion account and its later appropriation in antisemitic propaganda.
