Dr Rebecca Starr is a Lecturer in History of Art at the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies, University of Leeds. Her expertise spans critiques of capitalism, relational aesthetics, participatory art practices, and social history of art, with a focus on intersections between art, critical theory, and social resistance.

Starr’s research examines the role of art in social and political contexts, particularly in labor disputes and cultures of resistance. She is currently developing publications from her PhD thesis, which interrogates relational aesthetics and the temporality of socially-engaged art practices.

She has received the University of Leeds Partnership award for teaching practice (2020) and contributes to digital learning initiatives through PRiA funding.
