Dr Rebecca Smyth serves as a Lecturer in Midwifery at The University of Manchester and holds a Visiting Lecturer position at the Department of Nursing, Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. She actively contributes to the Manchester Centre for Global Women’s Health, designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre.
Her research spans Midwifery, Systematic Reviews, Global Women's Health, and Evidence-Based Guidelines with expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies including randomised controlled trials. As an experienced Cochrane Systematic Reviewer, she specializes in the GRADING approach for evidence assessment in guideline development. Her work demonstrates strong international collaboration patterns across East, Central and Southern Africa regions.
Rebecca maintains significant partnerships with the World Health Organization for producing international clinical guidelines and leverages the Manchester Centre for Global Women’s Health as her primary research hub to advance evidence-based practices in women's healthcare through multinational academic networks.
