Rebecca Jennings

Rebecca Jennings is Professor of Modern Gender History at University College London (UCL), affiliated with the Department of History within the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences. She holds administrative roles as Admissions Tutor in History and Vice Dean (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) in the Faculty. Jennings specializes in 20th-century British and Australian lesbian history, focusing on themes like selfhood, oral testimony, and kinship structures. Her current research explores intersections of lesbian and trans identities in post-war Britain.

Teaching: Modules include 'Personal Testimonies of Twentieth Century Britain' and 'Gender and Sexuality in Modern Britain.' She is on research leave during 2025-26.

Research Interests: Jennings examines cultural representations of lesbianism, queer family formations, and the role of intimacy in shaping identity. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary LGBTQ+ advocacy, emphasizing the recovery of marginalized narratives through oral histories and archival research.

Advising: Supervises nine doctoral students researching topics ranging from LGBTQ+ digital archiving to post-war queer social networks. Her students' work spans Britain, Australia, and Chile, reflecting her transnational approach to queer history.
