Dr. Victoria Golding is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the School of History at Queen Mary University of London since January 2022. She holds a PhD in Social History from the University of Sussex (2022), funded by the AHRC. Her work focuses on queer spaces, lesbian communities, and emotional experiences in 1980s-1990s Britain. She employs oral histories and archival research to explore migration patterns and community formation in rural towns like Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Her research intersects with feminist networks, squatting movements, and 21st-century sexual politics.
Education: PhD in Social History, University of Sussex (2022); AHRC-funded doctoral studies.
Research Interests: Queer oral history methodologies, representation of LGBTQ+ experiences in historical sources, and the evolution of lesbian identity. Golding is a member of the Oral History Society’s LGBTQ Special Interest Group. At Queen Mary, she collaborates with Professor Matthew Hilton on the history of British humanitarianism.
Publications include contributions to New Directions in Queer Oral History (2022), Oral History journal (2020), and Diva Magazine (2019). Her work bridges academic scholarship and public engagement, emphasizing marginalized voices.
