Victoria Golding

Dr. Victoria Golding is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at Queen Mary University of London’s School of History since January 2022. She holds a PhD in Social History from the University of Sussex (2022), funded by the AHRC. Her research focuses on queer space, lesbian communities, and emotional experience in 1980s/1990s Britain. She explores how migration patterns and grassroots networks shaped lesbian communities in rural towns like Todmorden and Hebden Bridge, intersecting with feminist movements and urban squatting scenes.

She contributes to the Oral History Society’s LGBTQ Special Interest Group and collaborates with Prof. Matthew Hilton on a project about 20th-century British humanitarianism.

Publications include a chapter in New Directions in Queer Oral History (Routledge, 2022) and reviews in Oral History (2020), alongside articles in Diva Magazine.

Her doctoral work analyzed 27 oral histories and archival materials to trace lesbian migration movements and evolving community dynamics, offering insights into 21st-century sexual politics.
