Rebecca Gagan is an Associate Teaching Professor & Student Liaison in the Department of English at the University of Victoria (UVic). She has taught primarily first-year literature and academic writing courses since 2004. Her research focuses on pedagogy, Romanticism, and student mental health. Notable grants include a 2015 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grant for her resilience-focused writing interventions, leading to the UVic Bounce initiative (2019), and a 2020 Strategic Framework Impact Fund grant for the podcast Waving, Not Drowning (2021). She also pioneered the Faculty of Humanities’ first community-engaged learning course, HUMA 495: The Humanities in Action, supported by a 2018 Community-Engaged Learning Grant.

Her research bridges Romantic-era education theories (e.g., Schelling, Kant, Shelley, Wordsworth) and modern pedagogical practices. She has received prestigious awards including the 3M National Teaching Fellowship (2025) and Gilian Sherwin Alumni Award (2014).
