Tilottama Rajan is a Distinguished University Professor and former Canada Research Chair at the University of Western Ontario, where she has served as Director of the Centre for Theory and Criticism. Her academic journey includes positions at Queen's University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and visiting roles at institutions like the University of Cambridge and Ludwig-Maximilien’s University Munich. She founded the North American Society for the Study of Romanticism (NASSR) and has delivered over 280 academic papers globally.
Education: PhD, MA, and BA from the University of Toronto (1972-1977). Visiting fellowships include Clare Hall, Cambridge, and the Centre for Advanced Studies in Munich. She has held prestigious roles like H.I. Romnes Professor at UW-Madison and Northrop Frye Professor at the University of Toronto.
Research Interests: Focus on Romantic literature (1790s, Godwin-Shelley circle, Blake, Coleridge), Idealist philosophy (Hegel, Schelling), and contemporary theory (deconstruction, phenomenology). Current work explores interdisciplinary knowledge organization from Hegel to Foucault, and the impact of life sciences on Romantic thought. Projects include Zones of Entanglement and Reading Between Hegel and Schelling.
Key Contributions: Authored four books and edited seven collections. Supervised numerous PhD and MA students in Romanticism, theory, and philosophy. Organized major conferences like Romanticism and Knowledge (2013) and Romanticism and History (2002). Her invited lectures include plenary talks at Oxford, Harvard, and Princeton.
