Dr. Rebecca Freund is an Affiliated Lecturer at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Law and College Associate Professor at Downing College. She holds a BA (Hons) and LLB from the University of Cape Town, and an LLM and PhD from the University of Cambridge. Her research examines how British imperial governance influenced public law development, particularly regarding emergency powers and constitutional principles.
Her work explores intersections between historical colonial practices and contemporary public law frameworks, with special focus on human rights during crises. Recent projects include analyzing COVID-19 protest restrictions globally and imperial legacies in detention policies.
Dr. Freund teaches Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law, and Legislation across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
