Professor Helen Scott is the Regius Professor of Civil Law at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Law. She holds a BA (Hon) and LLB from the University of Cape Town, followed by a BCL, MPhil, and DPhil from Oxford. Her research focuses on unjust enrichment, property law, Roman law, and civilian legal history, with particular attention to theft-related claims and comparative legal systems. She has held academic roles at the University of Cape Town, Oxford, and currently chairs the Part II Examiners for the Law Tripos and serves as General Editor of the Cambridge Law Journal.
Her work bridges doctrinal analysis and historical jurisprudence, addressing topics such as enrichment by transfer, tort/delict liability, and the intersection of constitutional law with unjust enrichment principles in South Africa. Recent projects include theoretical justifications for enrichment law and a constitutional analysis of South Africa's unjustified enrichment framework.
Professor Scott has contributed widely to academic discourse through books, articles, and edited volumes. Her research emphasizes doctrinal coherence and cross-jurisdictional insights, reflecting her expertise in both common law and civil law traditions.
