Rebecca Elliott is Professor and Chair in Affective Neuroscience at the University of Manchester's Division of Psychology & Mental Health. Her research focuses on understanding neurobiological mechanisms underlying emotional, motivational and social processes in psychiatric disorders using fMRI and neuropsychological approaches. She investigates depression treatment effects, stress resilience, addiction neurobiology, and physical health-mental health interactions across multiple collaborative projects.
Her research integrates neuroimaging, pharmacological testing, and clinical studies to examine:
- Treatment modulation of emotional functions
- Neurobiological resilience to stress
- Depression-cognition interactions
- Addiction craving mechanisms
Publication analysis reveals strong focus on depression biomarkers, neuroimaging techniques, trauma impacts, and clinical translation across oncology, psychiatry, and immunology domains.
She supervises PhD students and leads public engagement initiatives with schools and communities.
Collaborations span multiple universities including Cambridge, Bergen, and Copenhagen, focusing on serotonin studies, fMRI analysis, and executive functioning in depression.
