Dr. Rebecca E Ruscoe serves as a Lecturer in Chemistry at Keele University's Lennard-Jones School of Chemical and Physical Sciences since July 2023, based in the Lennard-Jones Building on the Staffordshire campus.
Her academic qualifications include:
- MChem in Chemistry with Industrial Experience from the University of Manchester (2013), featuring a 12-month drug discovery placement at AstraZeneca
- BBSRC DTP PhD in synthetic organic chemistry under Prof. David Procter at the University of Manchester, focusing on copper-catalysed multicomponent reactions
Dr. Ruscoe's research integrates synthetic organic chemistry with catalytic methodologies across multiple domains. Her doctoral work established expertise in copper-catalysed multicomponent reactions, which expanded during her postdoctoral tenure at the University of Nottingham with Prof. Hon Wai Lam to include general transition metal-catalysed reactions and morphine chemistry. Most recently, at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology with Prof. Nick Turner, she advanced into biocatalysis research. Her work consistently targets efficient synthetic routes for complex molecules with pharmaceutical relevance, bridging traditional organic synthesis and enzymatic approaches to develop sustainable chemical processes for drug discovery applications.
She maintains active research collaborations across UK institutions, having contributed to projects in both industrial and academic settings including AstraZeneca, University of Nottingham, and University of Manchester.
