معرفی
John Gardiner is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manchester. He holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Durham and has held academic positions at Aston University (1990-1993) and UMIST, transitioning to the University of Manchester in 1994. His research focuses on synthetic organic chemistry, particularly carbohydrate chemistry, biocatalysis, and the development of novel materials like dendrimers and nanographene precursors. He has supervised over 50 graduate students and 16 postdoctoral researchers, contributing to over 120 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
Education: BSc (First Class) and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Durham. Awards include the Harrison-Shearer Prize for Chemistry (highest First) and the University Pemberton Scholarship.
Research Interests: Carbohydrate synthesis, biocatalysis (collaborating with Prof. Nigel Scrutton), heterocyclic chemistry, and material synthesis targeting drug discovery and nanomaterials. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and chemical intervention.
External Roles: Supervisor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (2022–2024) and Co-Supervisor at the University of New England (2021–2025). He leads the Organic Chemistry Group at Manchester, focusing on oligosaccharide synthesis and biomedical applications.
Key Achievements: Developed scalable synthetic heparin oligosaccharides, pioneered enzyme-catalyzed methodologies, and explored nanomaterials for biomedical and energy applications. His group’s work spans drug discovery, chemical biology, and sustainable technology.
