Professor Raymond Lee serves as Associate Dean (Global Engagement) at the University of Portsmouth's Faculty of Technology and chairs the Biomedical Engineering Research Group. He specializes in spine biomechanics, musculoskeletal health, and healthcare technology, focusing on aging populations, obesity-related fracture risks, and wearable device development. His work includes international partnerships with institutions in China, Malaysia, and Vietnam, supported by British Council grants.
Education: PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Strathclyde (funded by British Council Fellowship), and Commonwealth Universities Development Fellowship at King’s College London. He has served on research panels for Arthritis Research UK and Portuguese funding bodies.
Research interests include spinal biomechanics, clinical engineering applications, and physical activity monitoring systems. Recent advancements include a novel method to quantify mechanical loading for musculoskeletal health and fall detection technologies for elderly care.
Key achievements include securing external funding, developing clinical partnerships, and publishing over 100 peer-reviewed articles. Awards include prestigious fellowships and board governance roles at the University College of Osteopathy.
His work bridges engineering and medicine, emphasizing translational research for healthcare innovation. Current projects explore obesity-fracture correlations and AI-driven predictive models for adverse birth outcomes.
