Peter Cripton

Professor Peter Cripton is affiliated with the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), under both the Faculty of Applied Science and Faculty of Medicine. He is currently on sabbatical and focuses on injury prevention biomechanics, particularly spinal cord/column injuries, brain injuries, and hip fractures.

• Research Themes: Human Interfacing Devices, impact biomechanics, helmet design (Pivot™ helmet), mechanical surrogates for injury experiments
• Key Projects: Cervical spine injury prevention in automotive rollovers, mountain biking, and diving; advanced MRI imaging for seat belt efficacy studies

The Orthopaedic and Injury Biomechanics Group at UBC, where Cripton works, addresses global musculoskeletal disease burdens through high-impact research and graduate education.
