Professor Damien Lacroix is a Professor of Mechanobiology in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Sheffield, serving as Co-Director of the Insigneo Institute. He holds a PhD in Biomechanics from Trinity College Dublin and has held prestigious fellowships including the Marie-Curie TMR EU and Ramon y Cajal Senior Fellowship. His research focuses on bone mechanobiology, spine biomechanics, and musculoskeletal system modeling, with a particular emphasis on computational simulations and experimental mechanobiology.
Education: PhD in Biomechanics (Trinity College Dublin), MEng in Mechanical Engineering (INSA Lyon).
- Research Interests: Disc degeneration, fracture healing, computational models of inflammation in osteoarthritis, bioreactor design for tissue engineering.
- Key Projects: Multiscale modeling of musculoskeletal systems, predictive computational platforms for disc degeneration and bone fracture analysis.
Publications highlight advancements in spine biomechanics, finite element modeling, and mechanotransduction dynamics. Notable achievements include the Jean Leray Award (2010) and ERC Starting Grant (2011). Current grants include Horizon Europe funding for spinal metastasis modeling and EPSRC support for multiscale musculoskeletal simulations.
Professional Activities: Past-President of the European Society of Biomechanics, editorial board member of Biomaterials and Journal of Biomechanics.
